"My work is about a visual poetry of space and color in the landscape. I hope to capture in my work a spirituality in the light, the earth, the air. Painting from life for me involves a constant yet ever changing dialogue with nature. This dialogue continues and evolves from painting to painting, month to month, year to year. Each landscape has its own identity. Each one probes a different question, provokes a different response in the painting."

"I strive to remake the landscape in paint; to capture it's lush and sensual qualities and transform it through the medium. At the same time, I hope that I can instill in it my own thoughts and emotions while I am painting. This current work is involved with developing a intimate, spiritual space in the forest. I seek to find and convey the poetry in the way a shaft of light catches a tree trunk, or a shadow caresses a snowbank, or the brilliant sky as it is glimpsed through the treetops."

"The landscape does not reveal itself immediately. We experience it slowly, gradually over time and season. There is a specificity about each new place that takes time to emerge. In the same way, my paintings are not meant to be looked at quickly, but to be experienced slowly; to discover and delight in the parts as well as the whole, the way we experience the landscape."
